These materials will help students gain interest in reading and improve their reading skills. They will learn about different topics, new vocabulary words, and explore different relationships amongst different cultures. Most of my students don't have the opportunity to explore outside of their neighborhoods. They will benefit from having these books in their classroom to increase their knowledge. This will give them the opportunity to look into stories with a different lens. They will master skills such as finding the theme, inferencing, main idea, compare and contrast, and summary. Lessons will consist of us reading the novels together. I will provide comprehension questions and new vocabulary words throughout the novels. I will have them practice writing summaries to increase their writing capabilities. I want to help them gain knowledge in the classroom that they can't in their environments.
