My students have strong cultural ties to Mexico and understanding the art of weaving will help them connect to textiles found there and see the connection to other cultures' textile arts. The ability to create a woven textile will help students see the effort and appreciate the work that goes into hand-made textiles from all cultures they learn about. As middle school students, they have the dexterity and creativity to use a stable loom and desire to create something they are truly proud of. Having yarn and wooden looms in class will give not only students this year but for many to come to embrace this art form that has been unavailable to them.

About my class
