The necessity for students to have books available to them is imperative. Not only books in general, but books that meet them at their needs and allow opportunities to explore a variety of texts. The books I have selected promote diversity and inclusion, allow for conversations that are social emotional learning based, and allow the opportunity for students to read a variety of genres. I have also included books that are in Spanish; a first language of many of my students. By donating to this project, you are granting more students access to texts that fit their needs as readers and future leaders. Leaders start as readers. When we read, we allow our mind to grant access to wealth of knowledge and develop our own connections to the texts. The best way to help their reading ability is to start with accessibility. My students love to read and I want to help make sure that they have access to all types of books.
