I have found that my students are more likely to use materials, tools and read books if they are easily accessible. I have yet to collect my own furniture for my classroom that will serve this specific purpose. I want to provide that for my students. My students love reading and I want to provide them with an area in our room where they can choose a book to read independently or a spot that they can grab a whiteboard and practice writing sentences or sight words. Encouraging independence is important to me. I love to create an environment where my students have the freedom to grab a book or whiteboard and practice the skills we are learning. Seeing their confidence grow is the highlight of my teaching career. Creating little independent readers and writers is what we want to see as educators and having an easy reach-to library and writing organizer would help our classroom tremendously.
