For students from disadvantaged backgrounds, issues of choice and agency are deeply important. By providing my students with flexible seating, I want to grant them the freedom of choice to sit wherever they are most comfortable and wherever they feel most engaged. As an English teacher, I am a firm believer that books have the magical ability to transport us to new worlds. I hope to provide my students with texts that are both appropriate for their reading level and relevant to their own interests and life experiences. I hope to inspire a love of reading in my students that will last a lifetime. Our school community is full of children who love learning, but who may not have access to the supplies and tools they need to succeed. By keeping spare pencils and other educational resources in my classroom, I can ensure that all my students have what they need to thrive and grow, and that nobody gets left behind.
