We will be using these materials as we study ecosystems within our 7th grade Earth Science and 8th Grade Life Science Classes. Most of their knowledge of ecosystems revolves around prairie and woodland ecosystems. A reef ecosystem is a very complex ecosystem and they would have the opportunity to observe the relationship amongst the organisms that I will add to the tank. These consist of the live rock, clean up crew critters, coral, and fish. They will learn about the Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Nitrogen Gas cycle that happens within the ecosystem. I feel over time that many other Elementary Classrooms within our K-12 school will also create small lessons or units revolving around the Reef Aquarium.
