Students will have a chance to read an exciting tale of capture and enslavement. This is a unique way to learn about the 18th century world-wide slave trade and its impact on individuals through a fictional account. Students will have weekly reading benchmarks. They will be required to highlight information in the text, annotate writing response in the margins, and identify vocabulary as they read the novel. At the end of each reading benchmark a class discussion will facilitate diving deeper into historical thinking skills- causation, continuity, change, and etc.
