The books included will be utilized in enhancing language and vocabulary for students targeting articulation skills and students with special needs. The admiration I hold when a student connects with a book and the passion for reading is sparked is unending. I have witnessed students who started the school year with minimal words and ended the year by requesting and labeling everything in Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar with excitement! I have witnessed students produce tears, laughter, and inquiries while connecting and relating to characters. Skills students can develop while introduced to literature may include: building and extending vocabulary, developing sequencing and memory skills during story retell, predicting and inferencing, and fostering creativity and confidence.
