In lieu of the pandemic and students slowly returning back to the classroom, there is a bit of apprehension. The items requested will be used to take some of the financial burden off families, so that students may learn in a creative and clean environment. Items such as colored paper will be utilized to showcase chemistry in a hands-on way, allowing students to create graphic organizers and manipulatives to connect to the material. Additional items requested such as a whiteboard will allow close proximity for students to obtain an up-close and personal connection to the lesson. A particular lesson in chemistry that these supplies would help in is called putting ions in their hands. Seeing formula names of ionic compounds can be confusing for students. Many of the supplies requested allow students to create manipulatives to discover a systematic method of writing formulas for ionic compounds without having to experimentally determine each formula using cation and anion cards they create themselves.
