Each day, with an specific prompt, students will begin class with at least five minutes of time thinking, reading, reflecting, and writing in their personally designed journal. The effort at the beginning of the project in designing and making their journal should allow each student to invest in the importance of their personalized journal. The metal embossing and other art processes will include simple, inspirational Big Ideas all while moving the students' language acquisition along from simple parts of speech to complex concepts. My research and experience give me the confidence that most students will invest themselves in the journaling process throughout the year, and find this experience to potentially be a lifelong endeavor.
