I really value hands on learning in my classroom. Right now, I don't have a lot of math manipulatives in my classroom because I am a first year teacher. I feel that my students are engaged the best when they are working with hands on material. For example, the multiplication, division, and place value power pen activities will be used for math centers as a way to help students practice these specific math skills with direct feedback. Also all the counters, magnetic math manipulatives, clocks, and place value blocks will be used for tier one teaching so my students have a chance to learn the material in a more hands on, engaging way. The flexible seating will be used to help my students that need to wobble, bounce, or lean, which in turn keeps their brain more alert and focused.
