It struck me recently, as an onlooker to other schools and districts, how weird and unusual my students are in comparison. The unique thing about teaching at a charter school is that our students are with us by choice. We are not the default. The culture in among our students is vibrant, bold, and atypical. They are funny and creative and loud-mouthed and don't accept what's "normal" as what must be. I love how different and powerful these young leaders are and believe in their world changing abilities but, more than that, they inspire me to be bold and to be myself in a radically accepting and empowering way.
