The books in this project will give my students the freedom of choice when completing our Dystopian Fiction Book Clubs. Although my students will be reading a diverse range of books, their common themes will foster classroom community and collaboration. Student choice is essential to creating excitement and buy-in surrounding reading instruction. My goal is to keep my students engaged by allowing them to combine their own interests and book preferences into their book club selections for this unit. Giving students choice will allow them to be fully immersed in an exciting genre that will be new for many of my students. The lessons learned from Dystopian Fiction encourage students to think critically and engage with society and literature on new, deep levels.
