The books I've selected cover a variety of genres and formats. I want my students to have the chance to read things that interest them while also expanding their exposure to quality graphic novels, new styles of art and fresh story-telling. Every year, the books I have collected are well-loved, well-read and they don't last forever. Books that interest the readers in my room will be handled every day for the rest of the year, taken home in backpacks, passed around and read by several children. So much handling is rough on the books but it makes it easy to tell what kind of material my students want to read. These books will be used to teach several literary concepts such as mood/tone, main idea, having great discussions about what we read, inferencing and more. They will be used as model texts to extend the writing abilities of my students that are ready to stretch their skills. I do my best to keep my classroom library stocked but sometimes it's hard to keep up!
