The materials requested within this project will give students the opportunity to read a story that emphasizes multiple themes that are highly beneficial for students to take away from. "The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" describes the journey of a Native American teenager attending a primarily caucasian school for the first time. This story teaches the struggle of oppression, the reality of inequity, and the embracement of self-advocacy. This project will promote student success through the analysis of valuable themes within the literature. This book will be read during our Native American experience unit and will help build awareness of modern-day struggles for this minority group. In addition, this project will be relatable for my students because of their shared experiences of racism, oppression, inequity and every day teenage issues.
