These kids need tangible objects to grasp concepts. The pencil pouches will allow for organization of the students budget in the classroom game of life. The game of life will continue at home where the parents can assist students in writing a genuine budget for themselves. The board games not only incorporate basic math concepts but it encourages positive peer interaction. Let's face it: Math gets a bad rep because we have negative experiences in math class. For this reason, I've also wanted to put up some positive thinking posters for these kids. Again, these kids think they are in the "dumb class" because they are not with other peers in their grade. Never underestimate the power of positive psychology. My goal this year is to help them get closer to being on grade level with their peers and give them strong and concrete math essentials.
