I have chosen these class novels for my students for many reasons. I hope that my students find personal and cultural connections to the texts while also learning about other peoples' experiences. My students will benefit from a variety of texts covering cultural and historical experiences in which they may be able to relate. The novel The Wild Robot is a heartwarming and action-packed novel about what happens when nature and technology collide. My students, who are very technology-centered, would love to read about how a robot makes its way through the wilderness. The Novel The Trouble With Chickens is about a former search-and-rescue dog who is trying to enjoy his retirement after years of performing daring missions saving lives. He is driven to help his fellow chicks find their siblings after being promised a cheeseburger. This light lighthearted story will keep my students at the edge of their seats as they try to solve the mystery of the missing chicks. Wonder by Palacio RJ is a story that all children should read. Wonder is about a boy who struggles to fit in at school. I hope that by reading this book, my students will learn the importance of sticking up for others and accepting our differences. In a world where bullying is so common, I hope my students rise above others and spread kindness.
