We work on teaching kids real life responsibility skills so that our students are not just prepared for school, but for general life practices. Our district has shut the water off from the regular water fountains and replaced them with water bottle re-filler water fountains. Most of our students live in poverty and don't necessarily have the means to provide their child with a reusable water bottle. This means that our students would be using plastic water bottles daily... which is not helping our environmental crisis. The goal of this project is to give students the chance to take responsibility. It is their responsibility to keep track of their water bottle and to also help take care of the Earth. We will help teach the students why it is important to save their reusable water bottle and how it will have a positive effect on the Earth--also teaching them a taste of delayed gratification (since we won't see these effects of degradation from the water bottles for a few years). My goal with this project is to provide each student in our wonderful school a reusable water bottle so that we can teach them responsibility while teaching them about saving the Earth.
