I intend on using these racially representative books in lessons on being understanding and accepting of others. These books will also be placed in my classroom library for students to read independently and at home with their families so they can practice their reading skills not only at school but at home as well. My goal for my second graders is to improve their reading abilities while also being able to make connections with books that they see themselves being represented in. With this comes the understanding that they need to be accepting of all people no matter where they come from or what they look like.
