Putting on a theater production is a very daunting task. From set design to getting parents on board to volunteer, my job as a teacher never ends. I love it, but it’s super challenging. Then there are budget concerns. I never have the resources I need to produce the quality of productions I think that my students deserve. But this year, that’s going to change because I just met a teacher and instructional designer who is on a mission to change that. I want to bring Joanna Puello, founder of World Upside Down, into my classroom for a virtual visit. She will share her why as a nonprofit entrepreneur and tell us about the arts education video curriculum she’s creating for arts educators and classroom teachers who want to integrate the arts. Joanna will also give us access to the four-hour video curriculum kit she designed called The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Show Kit, which gives teachers a clear path for acting instruction and play production. Topics include warm-up routine, create a strong character through voice and body, prepare for an audition, script analysis, character development, memorization techniques, stage areas, and blocking. It also provides tips for set & prop design, lighting, costumes & makeup.
