First graders will reach many milestones this year, including learning to read and write. My classroom could use extras such as magnetic letters, composition paper, and story telling paper. My mentor teacher, a former instructional coach, assisted me in choosing these items for the success of my students. We have already used story telling paper as we practiced our high-frequency words. My students love to see their writing and artwork displayed! They can also draw pictures of math word problems, or number stories, as we call them. The magnetic letters will be useful in the classroom as students learn to spell, and they stay on the board, not the floor!
