"Grow our Greenhouse" was formed with the purpose of increasing our students awareness of the natural world through our Green Thumb Club. Students in grades 4-6 will have the opportunity to create and implement a live greenhouse on school campus. This project will begin in September when planting season begins and will end in June (end of academic school year, 2022) We will be tracking student's Performance Matters Science scores to measure learning outcomes. 25% of 5th grade students will show an increase of 10% in their Performance Matters Science Test by the end of the academic year. Club members will begin this project by selecting the appropriate location for the greenhouse. Students will assemble the infrastructure of the greenhouse with supervision. Once completed, students will research which vegetables should be planted in September and each month moving forward. Clay County Utility Authority will be presenting the water cycle to the club several times throughout this project. Students will also cultivate and brain storm recipes to share with staff and other students. "Grow our Greenhouse" will be focusing on the following 5th Grade science standards: SC.5.E.5.2 SC.5.E.7.1 SC.5.E.7.3 SC.5.E.7.6 SC.5.L.15.1 SC.5.L.17.1 These standards focus on the characteristics and properties of plants, the water cycle, climate zones, environmental changes and adaptations for survival.
