Students need choice and flexible seating will provide that opportunity for my students. My scholars can benefit from having choice in their seating during independent work. Since students have an assigned seat for whole group and testing, giving them an opportunity to choose their seats during group and independent work will be motivating for them. Having a yoga chair or bean bag to sit on while working in their writing journal will most likely keep students more engaged and more likely to complete assignments. They'd definitely appreciate it more than seat work. My students are more likely to work when they have comfortable seating and food in their stomachs. The snacks and flexible seating options we selected will not only help with making good learning choices, but also fill a void. The snacks will curb the hunger that they feel because of their late lunch and/or sometimes missing breakfast. The yoga chair seats and the beanbag chairs will also provide comfortable options for when they're at the reading library in our room. Having choice can greatly impact student motivation and I want that for all my students.
