We are a literacy collaborative school. Our block for instruction includes independent reading. During this time students engage in books of their choice and write about their thinking. It is my goal to create a comfortable reading atmosphere. During this time the students will read, apply mini lessons, write a weekly response letter and engage with their peers. A typical morning would be the students coming to the carpet for our interactive real aloud. We take time to notice and wonder about the characters or how the author writes the book. The lessons we learn on our carpet carries over into independent reading. Comfortable seating allows to students at to engage in their books and write about their thinking! I strive to create a “home” like atmosphere that will help my students to blossom into readers! My goal is to help students feel comfortable in school and challenge their learning and love for reading!
