These materials will help us transition to returning to learn back to school by providing the haumāna (students) with resources they can utilize to strengthen their academic skills through ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language). My haumana will learn through small group instruction by practicing and mastering vocabulary and math skills using flashcards that will be translated into ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. Haumāna will be able to show pictures of themselves interacting with the manipulatives and flashcards by taking pictures on the school iPad. After taking pictures on the iPad, they can show their peers by casting it to the Apple TV. By using the Apple TV, all of the students will be able to see the content on the tv while social distancing. Literacy is a major component of language development. This is especially important for ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi since many keiki only get language exposure at school. By supporting students with these resources, they will be able to grow their vocabulary and continue to develop their understanding of the language.
