My school is fully in person this year and I would love to offer my students hands-on activities to engage and support their learning at school. These hands-on activities promote learning math and working collaboratively, which are two things the students would benefit greatly from this year. The students have been isolated for so long that I want to offer my students more opportunities to play with math and these manipulatives will help with that. Here are some of the opportunities I hope to create in math this year using the materials I have chosen. I have chosen a bingo game that connects the ideas of fractions, decimals, and percents. All three of those are important to learn but to help the students see the connection through a game is an activity that will engage them and promote the connection between those three core concepts. Another activity I have chosen is about geometry and visualizing the two-dimensional "net" that a 3D shape is made from. This kits I have chosen allow for the students to see the net fold into the three-dimensional shape. This will help their engagement and math knowledge as well use those shapes to learn about surface area and volume. Another choice I made that can be applied to all of the material is white boards and white board markers because this offers the students to engage in fun activities that offer collaboration but also promotes collaboration and showing their work, such as jeopardy review games. I can't wait to see my students be able to collaborate with each other and learn from each other as we enter this in-person school year after such a challenging time.
