My English language learners can best master the English language through reading and journaling about what they read. Whether used in interactive small groups, partners, or individual practice, these visually appealing phonetic games will allow the students to acquire and practice the usage of important grade-level-appropriate sight words, to construct elementary sentences, and eventually, to independently create paragraphs and even short stories. I love seeing my second graders enthusiastically engaging at my Writing Center, offering suggestions and critiques as they help each other master the intricacies of elementary English. Through this interchange, they get the chance to speak, listen, and think about the English words and phrases they are learning.
