Having these sewing machines in our classroom will enable me to give students MORE opportunities for hands on learning experiences. Students will get to design costumes, learn how to make basic patterns, and construct fully realized costumes for themselves and for students in my Performing Arts class. This is not a single use resource either, once the sewing machines are at our school, I will be able to regularly incorporate them into my curriculum. My overall future goal is to create a full costume design elective for students. As a school with an emphasis on sustainability, helping students learn how to create their own garments will ideally give allow them the freedom to conceptualize and create their own attire.
