With these books my students will have an opportunity to use their independent/group reading time to explore new worlds about rich and interesting characters in a way that is transformative and exciting enough to keep them enthralled in new worlds that are different from what they may have encountered on a daily basis. Students will use their time to read the novel and develop real world connections as well as creating a link to key standards necessary for a mastery of the English language in seventh grade. This novel will also serve as a connection to Black History icons and will be used to build a greater understanding of the importance of building a link to the past in order to achieve their goals.
