As a first year teacher, this project helps me build a strong foundation for my 2nd grade classroom library - something that's very near and dear to me since literacy in the early primary years directly correlates to their success in the future. These books will live in my classroom and serve one of two purposes 1) be selected by my students based on their interest for independent reading time, or 2) be read aloud by me to facilitate rich discussion among my students. "Creating a steady stream of new, age-appropriate books has been shown to nearly triple interest in reading within months." In short, reading jumpstarts cognitive development and fosters independent, imaginative learners; and even more so when the books are relatable. Thanks in advance for your support!
