Last year was nothing short of a crazy school year from switching from 3rd grade to kindergarten two weeks before school started. Well... this year I am going from teaching a full year in kindergarten to 5th grade. With all these crazy shifts I thought why not do something else crazy and try to incorporate flexible seating options into my 5th grade classroom. I have always believed in flexible seating. It allows students to focus and move while learning. So what is flexible seating "Flexible seating is the practice of allowing and providing many seating options for students. This means having different types of seats like yoga balls, chairs, couches, stools, etc. This also means given students the freedom to choose where they sit." We all like to make our own choices in our lives and children should be able to make their own choices too. Flexible seating gives them one way to make decisions. We also know that anyone can get more work done when they are comfortable at school or home. Some people are comfortable sitting on a chair and others are more comfortable sitting on the floor. I have noticed that when I was in a classroom with flexible seating students were happier and engaged more in the learning environment. I want to allow my students the same thing! With your help, I can make this wish possible.
