COVID 19 has caused some very difficult challenges to our classroom procedures and routines as well as daily life for many of my students. Some families do not have the means to provide as they once did for their students. Some children have developed anxiety about coming to school. My goal is for students to feel safe in my classroom so that they will not have feelings of fear replacing their ability to learn. Reading to students is one of my favorite things to do. This is also one of their very favorite parts of the day. Many students have unique situations at home where books are not something provided for them. Some students cannot bring books to school for our quiet reading time because they do not have any. I would love to add a variety of books for students to be able to choose to read while they are in the classroom. By adding an air purifier my students will benefit from having cleaner air while they listen during our read-aloud time. It is also my hope that students will feel more comfortable during their own reading time to go to my small class library and choose a book to read in our fun reading corner. I believe by reducing their worries and concerns regarding COVID-19 students will be able to continue to develop a love of learning, a passion for reading, and a more comfortable sharing space in the classroom. By providing routine and structure they are used to in an environment they feel safe in, I believe the students will have the tools they need for success. I am asking for donations of good books to add to our small class library, as well as an air filter to recycle the air as we meet together.
