Learning another language can be frustrating so for my English Language Learners, I want to give them access to supplies that will all them to grow in their ability to express themselves! This includes art supplies, items needed for activities, and equipment to help them communicate their thoughts. Having access to this iPad would give my students a much quicker way to be able to express to me their thoughts through speaking and translation, thus allowing me to be able to help them faster with less frustration for both parties. I would also be able to use the iPad for reading exercises in their native languages and as a tool for them to create digital art as they work to express themselves. My students also love activities that require someone (that's not themselves) to be put at the center of attention! To have a special chair where students can sit in front of the class when they present would help to ease some of the attention that students feel as they formally stand in front of their peers. It also would be a good motivator for students to want to come and present because they have the chance to sit in the special class chair. Lastly all the art supplies and stickers will help the students express themselves visually in their work. As many of my students struggle with their English proficiency, to be able to have weekly art projects will be a great social and emotional learning experience. They will be able to show how they are feeling through a way that feels comfortable for them. My students and I would so extremely grateful for the chance to have our project chosen so that we can look forward to a great year and their successful futures!
