I will choose 1-2 titles each week to focus on and create conversations with my students about what diversity is, what it looks like, and how to be a kind human in the midst of it all. I will encourage my students to think empathetically about the characters and start discussions about how to demonstrate an attitude of acceptance both in and out of our classroom. I just want to use literacy to draw my students into the idea of diversity. Let them marinate in stories of people who aren't like them, and give them something to think about. These titles will allow my students to relate to people unlike themselves, and hopefully start a chain reaction of kindness.
