It is their first time in school for most of my students, let alone a FULL day in a busy, bustling Pre-K classroom. It can be overwhelming for anyone, especially students who have spent the last year and a half at home due to Covid. I want to create a private space with a teepee tent for students to find peace in a lively, active, and sometimes over-stimulating environment. Some of the most important skills we practice in Pre-K are feelings identification and self regulation. I want there to be tools in this quiet space to express feelings, and receive sensory input to support self regulation. The different sensory tools (balls, pillows, brushes and beanbags) will help a variety of students find a calming strategy that works for them. The LEGO Build Me Emotions set will give students a chance to communicate their feelings non-verbally, and support conversations about those emotions. By donating to my project, you will help my students have a place to go to find calm, learn to self-regulate, and give themselves what they need to return to the exciting learning happening around them.
