My main goal with this project is just to get students to read classic American Literature. The way we have set up reading classes in high school doesn't really lend itself to let the kids explore the literature on their own. Sure, we can say that a high school student needs to read The Scarlet Letter or To Kill A Mockingbird, but I don't think these are the ONLY books they should read. American Literature has a deep catalogue of incredible pieces that we just don't have the time in a school year to cover. The Scarlett Letter is an important book to read, but there are many other stories that are just as important, and might resonate even more with issues that students are dealing with today.
