Through our read aloud, students not only can connect with the characters, but learn skills such as theme, point of view, summarizing, elements of story writing, and more. Not only will our class use novels, such as Holes and The Indian in the Cupboard, to learn the skills necessary for their academic growth, but it will also opens up meaningful discussion about character development, personal experiences, and culture. We learn through the characters we are reading about to relate it to our everyday life. By students having their own book, they are able to become more fluent readers, build their vocabulary, and better engage in the book.
