Just like in real life... Adults will work and complete different tasks to earn money. With that money, we will purchase items to fulfill our needs and wants. This is the same idea I replicate in my classroom with roles, responsibilities, and our class currency. Pop It toys, Thinking Putty, Smencils, anything that lights up have been proven to be highly motivational rewards for my students. Each day, my students have the opportunity to earn money by completing tasks and following our school disciplinary rules. At the end of each week, I open my classroom store for students to purchase items that they may need to replenish lost school supplies or "reward" toys. This classroom store also benefits learning concepts that we cover in our Social Studies unit on Economics.
