These past years have been a struggle dealing with the pandemic and navigating with technology both in and out of the classroom for my students. They are faced with competitive technology with their peers. Most of my students do not own cell phones and are sometimes embarrassed to express their financial hardships. The beginning of the school year is a time when teachers get to know their students through many different activities. Students and teachers build trust through sharing important details about themselves. Due to a lack of funding in the school districts, my students were unable to learn how to use a computer to complete their assignments. Having the luxury of a shared iPad in the classroom would give us the convenience to provide a personal individual technology experience that students can learn and build confidence throughout their school year. The introduction projects at the beginning of the school year will help them collect resources and design a college planning curriculum for immigrant and undocumented students to enhance their college access and scholarships in a timely manner. Sharing can come in many forms: storytelling, drawing, and poetry writing. This iPad will help my students express themselves at the beginning of this new school year and create a safe, culturally responsive learning environment. Through the projects created, we will begin to build a trusting relationship that will ensure that all students feel safe to meet their learning goals.
