By the time my 11 and 12-year-old students get to my classroom on the first day of school, many of them will have seen more life and experienced more hardships than any human should experience in a lifetime. I am working to build an escape for my students. These resources will be used in engagement kits where I transform my room to a certain theme. For instance, when we cover area and perimeter, my room becomes a construction zone. Students get to team up with a business partner for the week and create their dream business. It may be a burger joint or a make-up store. Whatever they choose, they must create a design for the business and come up with a blueprint. They even search online to pick out real estate fit for their business. My kids love the escape that comes with these room transformations and I hope to have the resources to do many of them throughout the year!
