When you picture an art room, you may only picture students working on classic art with colored pencils and paint or following a step-by-step guide to replicate an example, but classic art isn't for every student, especially in our digital world. Students in the 21st century should be exposed to and inspired by new genre art and the contemporary and local art that they can't see in textbooks. I will use a projector to show art examples, including performance art videos, audio art recordings, digital art, local artwork, and especially varied examples for my students with special needs. A projector will also help me teach through presentations, allowing for simplified lesson planning, and give visual learners the ability to see what is being taught. Students will also use it to present their own digital art portfolios at the end of our grading periods. Learning about contemporary art inspired me to continue being an artist, and I know it will inspire the students that can't be reached via drawing and painting.
