These novels will help my students with both academic and life skills! First, this novel is written in verse, meaning it is a ton of poems which work together to form a story. Students will analyze the text for literary devices, specifically imagery and metaphor. Also, the novel has no clear ending - which will prompt students to make predictions as to what they think Will will do after his brother's murder. However, the larger theme of Long Way Down is decision making - and how generations of traditions and decisions can impact so many people. It is crucial that students understand their decisions have implications, and this verse novel is a great way to foster these discussions.
