Literature engages students in the world around them as they navigate the complexities that are inherent in coming of age. These novels will broaden students' understanding as they take in multiple perspectives from a diversity of voices that address contemporary social justice issues. Students will have the opportunity to choose which novels are of greatest interest to them and engage in meaningful, small group discussions with peers and facilitators. The resource guides will help teachers develop pathways for intentional dialogue regarding integral themes and character development to foster creative oral and written expression. The white boards and markers promote inclusion of student voice. Many students are intimidated by speaking up in front of a group. The white boards will allow facilitators to pose discussion topics to which students can make written responses.
