Using diverse books, we can talk about and celebrate differences ranging from different countries of origin and home languages spoken all the way down to varied likes and interests. When a reader can relate to what they read, they not only enjoy reading more but will accomplish more as a result of their vast exposure to various texts. Children that see themselves in books can see that they have a special place in the world and in doing so, feel empowered to achieve. Children learn better when they feel a sense of acceptance and importance as individuals. The diverse books in my project can kickstart the year the right way. Learning through culturally diverse books shows everyone that no matter what your background is, you have purpose and great things to offer the world. With unlimited self views, students will see their own potential and aspire to greatness.
