The purpose of this unit is a direct product of the pandemic's impacts on our students and community. Students are eager to engage in their learning by doing science, and are curious to make meaning of the microscopic origins of the virus that has changed our lives. In alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards, 6th graders will safely practice microbiology techniques to discover the commonalities among living things. By accessing specialized equipment such as petri dishes and inoculating loops, students can incubate, quantify, graph, and observe the microorganisms that co-exist in their world.
