When I asked my class who enjoyed reading, only one hand went up. That was the moment I knew I had to be creative to change my students' mindsets. I am hopeful that introducing mystery novels will do just that! Who knows, maybe I even have some future detectives on my hands. My students will work together to play detective as they master various reading skills. Making inferences, using text evidence and examining the mood of a scene are just a few skills the students will learn as they solve their mysteries. They will also work on social skills like teamwork and how to respectful debate. I am confident my students will be actively engaged as they try to figure out whodunit!
