The use of musical instruments will foster the integration of the arts in my English as a Second Language class. For English Learners, acquiring foundational skills in a language that they do not comprehend is a big challenge. Some of the sounds they are learning are totally different from the sounds of their native language. Using musical instruments to introduce and practice the concept of sound isolation and sound manipulation will make the transition between languages smoother. There are multiple uses of musical instruments in a second language class. From the development of foundational skills as stated before, to the development of comprehension. Student engagement is definitely increased through music which facilitates the acquisition of language skills and knowledge. This project will enhance their participation in class and make a positive impact on their academic growth.
