These books will continue the rich cultural reading and dialogue we have been having in my classroom. My students have been learning about the concept of windows being a "look into someone's life who doesn't have the same cultural background." And mirrors being a look into someone's life that may have a similar life experience." My students have loved finding things in common with characters in books. They love learning about the cultural similarities and differences that they share with the characters in books. After having so many months of off and on virtual learning and having to stare at screens for so many hours each day, real books are so important. This project will put books in the hands of over 100 6th graders!
