The desk nameplates I picked out are not just nametags. There is a wealth of information on them for students to reference. There is a manuscript alphabet, which is helpful for students who still struggle with letter reversals. There is a number line and a 100 chart, which will both help with math. Finally, there is a reminder for what to do when students are stuck on a word while reading.
Being organized is an important key to learning in the classroom and at home. The work-in-progress folders will allow me to tell the students to put their work in the math section or the reading section, instead of a red folder or blue folder. Sometimes not everyone comes to school with the right color of folders or maybe they come with picture folders instead of color folders. Everyone having the same folder which is clearly marked will make learning much more efficient.
The homework folders will work much the same way. There is a pocket for keeping reading logs or other papers that need to stay in the folder all the time. The two other pockets are clearly labeled Keep at Home and Return to School. This makes the end of the day packing up and first thing in the morning unpacking easier on everyone. It also makes it clear to parents what needs to happen with the papers in the folders.
