A sketchbook is a journal that tracks progress, improvement, challenges, and all the things we cannot put into words. My students use them for all of these things throughout the year. After the past year of teaching through a pandemic, these sketchbooks were more important than ever. My students use their sketchbooks to practice technique, create visual studies of subject matter, and reflect on the complexities of life (which are all sketch notes that help them remember a process or idea). Being able to keep this information together is beneficial!
